As you will have seen, corrugated cardboard boxes come in all shapes and sizes. From a simple 0201 FEFCO code outer box, to a box that can be fully self-assembled. All this comes down to cardboard box design.

At Quickbox we have an inhouse design team who are equipped with the latest cad software and a large format cad table. This enables us to make packaging prototypes where necessary, before going into full scale production runs.

So why is cardboard box design important? Below are seven reasons why you should be using our inhouse design facilities for your box orders.

Less waste = more savings

Why would you choose a standard stock box only to fill it with void fill? By engaging with our design team, we can help you come up with the ideal size and style for your products. Firstly this will look better when it is received by the end user, improving the customer opening experience. In addition it will save money by not paying for excess cardboard that isn’t required.

Awkward product shapes

It is not always possible to get an off the shelf cardboard box to fit your product. With the aid of our cad software, we can not only design an outer box, but also corrugated inserts to place your product into. This will help to stop your product moving in transport and also give it the protection required when it is being shipped on a courier.

Environmentally Friendly

The environment is under increasing pressure. We have all witnessed some amazing record-breaking temperatures this summer. Whilst this is nice for us all to top up our tans, it is scorching the earth. By using customed designed cardboard packaging we can eliminate the need for plastic void fill. This will reduce the need for unnecessary plastic packaging to be dumped in land fill. Your products will also take up less pallet space and will therefore need less lorry room and as a result, will improve your carbon footprint. This makes the pack much more eco-friendly.

Customised packaging

By choosing a bespoke cardboard box, you can fully customise your packaging to suit your brand image. This can help to increase your sales as you will be offering a unique packaging solution for your product. This helps to reinforce your image to your customers and add excitement to the end user once they receive your product. In these days of ecommerce, making a difference to your packaging can make you instantly recognisable, and help you to stand out from the crowd!

Improved productivity

Using custom designed cardboard boxes can help to improve productivity. Using designs such as crash lock base cartons, glued crash lock base cartons and self-sealed closure boxes can make the packaging process quicker, therefore increasing productivity. It can also save you money as these designs tend to use less tape to be sealed.

Full product protection

A die cut box is ideal for custom packaging. You can have your box designed specifically to fully protect your product. The designer can produce a packaging template on the cad software and then arrange custom packaging solutions for your goods. All that’s needed is your product details, sizes and weight of the item and we can design a custom box. One of the benefits of die cutting is that every box is uniform in size and style, giving a very professional look to your box packaging. To customise your die cut box further, why not have the boxes branded with printed logos, website and contact details. All this helps to create unique selling points for your brand.

Getting the correct board grade

It is great having the best box style for your product packages, but unless you have the correct board grade the pack will not necessarily work. The board grades vary in thickness from approx. 2mm up to approximately 7mm.

Different corrugated boards can be used for different custom packaging. For example, BC flute (or double wall corrugated), gives great protection and is very strong. Therefore, it is an excellent choice for transit outers and storage boxes. E flute on the other hand is a single wall corrugated (about 2mm thick) and is ideal for smaller intricate designs. It is also a great board grade for die cuts and gives a fantastic surface for printing. But the most popular grade is B flute (single wall about 3mm thick). This can be used for most custom boxes as it is a good grade for both standard outer box styles and also bespoke die cut packs.

In summary

By choosing the right cardboard box design for your packaging needs, you can save money, stand out from the crowd, and also help to save the planet.
